The Game and the Choice: 1939-2009

The children of Israel know that seventy years is a sign of exile’s duration, and that today, such is progress, exile can be within the land: just as there were client regimes of Babylon and Egypt in late First Temple times, so new Empires and puppets now. 

Today also the nation of Israel must choose whether to continue to endure a client regime that demolishes Jewish dwellings and defends itself only with ‘permission a la Shushan,’ permission of a foreign king or to be a free people in the land, the only way a Jew can be a Jew. But few today grasp the resonance of yashar and shaleim, as Jacob was when he returned to Shechem. (more…)
