The President of Iran is visiting the United States again to speak at that entity in Manhattan termed “the United Nations.” That Mr. Ahmadinejad can visit America at all means that the diplomatic, intelligence and military top echelons want him here. Geopolitics consists of a series of feints within feints, threats and counter-threats mixed with mutual back-scratching. But someone always pays the piper and, notwithstanding the old phrase, it is rarely he who calls the tune. That was then, but this is the age of terminal Machiavellianism when doing evil means never having to say you’re sorry when you’re big enough to make others pay for your power trip and mistakes.
